Following an autism diagnosis she received at 22 years old, Maia became hyper-aware of the overwhelming misinformation surrounding autism. Her work presents 30x40” large-scale portraits of adults with autism, a grid of manipulated Polaroid portraits of children with developmental disabilities treated with chlorine dioxide, and a performance-based video about sensory overstimulation in autistic people.
